A hacker has to deal with DDOS, server intrusions, password cracking, coding, and penetration testing – all of which involves dealing with enormous amounts of data. To process those data, hackers would require a powerful machine to accomplish a task. In simple words, You need the Best laptops for Hacking which doesn’t cause you any interruptions at all.
Previously I have talked about some top laptops for Kali Linux and Pentesting But here, I’m going to share my thoughts on some good laptops for hackers. If you are specifically into Pentesting, then you should definitely check out my previous post.
I have followed the minimum and recommended system requirements guides on popular hacking software such as Metasploit, Nessus, and Wireshark. You don’t need to worry about running any hacking programs as every laptop on this list is powerful enough to run it.
Disclaimer: I’m not suggesting anyone here to do any illegal hacking, I’m just here to help some people to do white hat hacking on the right computer.
Okay, Now Let’s directly jump to the main point and talk about the laptops which I’m going to recommend you for hacking.
Top 8 Laptops for Hacking in 2020
1. Alienware AW17R4
The Alienware AW17R4 is quite an expensive laptop which costs around $1600 But If you have a budget like this, then the new and upgraded Alienware AW17R4 should be on your must-have list. It is packed with powerful hardware for people like you who want a super faster performance in a laptop.
Starting with the design and display, everything in this laptop is made by keeping heavy multitasking and visual complexities in mind. It has an enormous 17.3-inch display packed and contoured by a triangular design made from aluminum on the outside and soft-touch plastic on the inside.
While the design has little improvements, the display has been revamped to let you have a breathtaking gaming or general viewing experience. A 1080P sharp screen displays every detail in crisp colors. Even during hacking, it could deliver the required details in low to medium brightness. You won’t have to worry about tweaking display brightness every now and then.
Performance-wise, this laptop could be your mate for the times to come. Packing a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU and GTX 1060 GPU with a 16GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB 7200 RPM hard drive. The Alienware AW17R4 could let you perform multiple heavy programs simultaneously without troubling you at all.
Though the performance on this beast is amazing it isn’t portable at all. It weighs 9.7 lbs (4.4 kg) which is the heaviest laptop on this list. If you are working from a single place, then you may not have any issues with the weight of this laptop. If you travel with your laptop on regular basis, then you may have to find another laptop.
Typing on the touch-plastic keyboard (keys having 2.3mm travel time and requiring 75gm of actuation force) of this laptop is delightful even though it is placed farther towards the display. That combined with the touchpad could help you type and navigate without much of a problem. The keyboard is also backlit, so you can work in the dark, too.
As a hacker, you require enormous connectivity and this laptop boasts that. On the right side, it has one 3.0 USB port, while on the left side it comes with a Type-C USB, one another USB 3.0, a microphone and a headphone jack. The HDMI, Ethernet, Thunderbolt 3 port and mini DisplayPort are all located on the back of the laptop.
You also require a long-lasting battery, and luckily for you, the battery of this laptop lasts some 8 hours and 32 minutes if you continually surf the web on it over WiFi. The battery life while doing any hacking tasks would be between 2-3 hours.
2. Dell Inspiron i7577
The second laptop on this list is from Dell which is a well-established and trusted brand in this industry. The Dell Inspiron i7577 comes in 5 different variants and I’ll suggest you get the first variant as it is affordable and provides great value for its price.
The Inspiron i7577’s 15.6-inch display is very good for both professional and personal purpose. I have to say the build quality of the laptop is also excellent on this machine.
The laptop comes with 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD which is good enough to store a lot of data on this machine. The system boots up very quickly with help of the SSD drive. You’ll get 8GB DDR4 RAM for multitasking and it can be upgraded it up to 32GB If you want faster performance.
When it comes to CPU, Dell has offered Intel Core i5 processor i.e Intel Core i5-7300HQ which does a pretty good job and doesn’t heat up a lot. The surprising part of this laptop is its dedicated graphics i.e GTX 1060. It is very difficult to provide GTX 1060 at this price but Dell has managed to do that. Kudos to them.
The laptop weighs 6.3 lbs (2.8 kg) which is quite heavy in my opinion. Unfortunately, you can’t get everything at this price range. I would advise you get a bag for this beast If you want to bring this to your college or workplace.
The battery life you can expect from this laptop is 4-5 hours for mediocre usage. This is quite disappointing personally for me. Dell should have provided this laptop with better battery life. But this is what you’ll get.
Overall, I have to say this is one of the best laptop for hacking at a very affordable price.
3. Apple MacBook Pro
The Apple MacBook Pro has incredibly focused on performance more than anything. Though you may already know that it is quite an expensive machine it does provide you with a lot of premium stuff for its pricing.
The 13.3-inch display which comes with True Tone is stunning to look at and has very great color accuracy. For any late night workers like yourself, the True Tone could adjust the white point of the display according to the surrounding light intensity, thanks to its dedicated sensor. You could have a yellow tint on your docs and software UIs if you choose to keep it activated.
I don’t have any issues with the performance and I’m sure neither would you. This machine is built for blazing multitasking as it comes with 256GB faster-SSD, 8GB DDR3 RAM, Intel Core i5 CPU, and Intel Iris Graphics 550. These specs will definitely help you perform any hardcore task you want with ease.
The laptop weighs 3 lbs (1.36 kg) which is fairly portable and lightweight in my opinion. A laptop bag might make easier for you to travel with this laptop. Even without a laptop bag, you can travel with this machine without any trouble.
The keyboard of Apple MacBook Pro has also been improved. It is quieter now. It’s not like the whole world would know that you’re cracking codes and intruding servers if you type of it. All of this is the courtesy of the thin rubber layer beneath the keys, which also makes them quite soft to press. Now, for you, working for hours would not be any problem.
As nothing can be perfect, don’t expect much connectivity from Apple MacBook Pro. It only has Thunderbolt 3 ports. Although these ports are fast and you can connect up to two 4K monitors, you still won’t have the traditional full-size USB connectivity.
The battery life of Apple MacBook Pro is above average. A full web surfing with 150 nits brightness can last up to 8 hours straight. Now, if you’re running SQL Injections, this could last only up to 2 hours.
4. Acer Predator Helios 300
If you’re looking for an affordable yet value for money laptop for this job, then look no further because Acer Predator Helios 300 is one of the best laptops for hacking which provides great value for money. It wins over the competition by having specs that deliver top-notch performance.
Starting with the design, the laptop is anything like most of the laptops of the lineup. It has the same plastic and aluminum mixture, perfected to the core, which goes on to aid in heat dissipation and is also premium to the touch. The lid has the logo as well as the thick bezel, which is kind of redundancy.
The keyboard has plastic keys with WASD keys having shimmering red sides. There’s nothing quite unusual to the design, you see. However, that is what you’ll love about it.
While its design is promising, its display is a bit on the dim side but not by a large margin. That is because it only measures about 226 nits of brightness and that it covers only 81% of the sRGB color gamut. You can easily play games and do most of the tasks with this display without any issues.
Performance is the main key in this laptop and packing a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU, coupled with 16GB DDR4 RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, and 256GB SSD. These specs could also serve well for the countless applications and tools you use, thus, giving you an above average performance.
Just like many other gaming laptops, the Acer Predator Helios 300 weighs quite heavy at 5.9 lbs (2.7 kg). I won’t call as a lightweight machine because most people will find it hard to travel with.
The keyboard of this laptop is relatively comfortable, but if you’re a fast typist, it could be hard for you to pick up the pace in this one.
You can connect monitors, keyboard, mouse, and any other device to the laptop because it boasts one USB 3.0, one USB 2.0, and one USB Type-C port along with an HDMI port, Ethernet connector, headphone jack, and an SD card reader. The data delivery speed of all of these ports suffices for the daily connectivity needs as well as special needs as in your case.
You can expect 3-4 hours of battery life by doing simple and basic tasks such as editing MS Office files or browsing the web and 1.5-2 hours while doing heavy demanding tasks.
5. HP Pavilion 2018
This is a budget laptop with immaculate design and appropriate features. The HP Pavilion can be your companion for small hacking tasks. You can expect it to perform some heavy tasks but you can’t push it too much as it comes with NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 4GB graphics which isn’t a powerful GPU on the market right now.
The first thing that brings this laptop down as compared to its competitors is its display. Although it is a 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 display, it lacks an anti-glare coating. So, if you’re out in the sun and you’re trying to view something, it would be a little hard for you to view the contents.
If you can ignore the glare friendly display, the HP Pavilion can let you perform your hackathon with a minimum glitch. You’ll be getting Intel Core i7-8550U CPU, 512GB SSD and 16GB DDR4 RAM on this laptop. This processor can clock up to 4GHz and that is fast enough to let you perform a lot of powerful software in the background.
HP Pavilion is loaded with connectivity options. You can easily connect two USB 3.1, one Type-C USB, and one USB Type 2.0, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a full-size SD card, Ethernet, and an HDMI. The keyword offered on this laptop is smooth and it is backlit too.
Talking about its battery juice, well, it is enough to keep you running for about 2 hours and 25 minutes if you’re doing some heavy load work on full brightness. That is well above the average. In the normal full-time web surfing over Wifi, the battery lasts for about 6-7 hours.
Now, having a battery of this runtime, the HP Pavilion can win over the race of the stylish and best budget laptop for hackers.
6. MSI GV62
If you can compromise on the battery life and the moderate display for performance, then MSI GV62 8RD can be your next companion.
Let’s delve in details.
Now, the slightly disappointing part of this laptop i.e Display. Although it is not as colorful (covers only 72% of sRGB) as you’d think, it has some great viewing angles and is brighter than most of the laptops reviewed here (240 nits).
Performance is the trump card of this laptop. The Intel Core i5-8300H does a great in keeping up with your medium to heavy multitasking. The graphics are powered by GTX 1050Ti with VRAM of 4GB, which can let you run your graphics-heavy software without any problem.
The laptop comes with 16GB Intel Optane memory+ 1TB 5400 RPM HDD along with 8GB DDR4 memory to perform multitasking which it does easily and smoothly.
No matter what happens, you will always have the dedicated Dragon Center of MSI preloaded in this laptop. It keeps tabs on the performance of the CPU and GPU and can also help you get rid of the extra pressure on them by cleaning memory or disk space. Also, when your laptop hits the uncomfortably hot stage, you can control its fan speed, DPI, CPU/GPU clock speed.
Like many other laptops in this segment, this laptop can offer you 2 hours of battery life while doing any tasks. You can expect slightly more while using for entertainment purpose.
7. Acer Aspire E 15
Yet another budget laptop, the Acer Aspire E 15 is ready to perform medium to heavy multitasking for long hours and it’ll cost you only $600 from your pocket.
Recommended: Best Budget Laptops under 700 dollars
There are a few laptops that defy their prices and this one is one of them. It has been made by keeping in mind all the savvy programmers, hackers, and multitaskers out there who are looking for a power-packed laptop that does not strain on their bank accounts. Let’s see what it has got for you.
The 15.6-inch display of this laptop has decent color reproduction and viewing angles. The display offers 74% of the sRGB color gamut which is decent enough in my opinion. The design of this laptop quite simple which justifies its pricing. You can’t ask for a stylish laptop at this price from a top brand like Acer.
Despite the fact that this laptop is flanked by every kind of port that is out there, including a DVD, it is fairly portable which weighs only 5.3 lbs (2.4 kg). That also means you can carry it with yourself occasionally but not always.
Despite being an affordable machine, this laptop can deliver you a very good performance. It comes with Intel’s 8th gen processor i.e Intel Core i5-8250U, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 256GB SSD, and a dedicated GeForce MX150 graphics card.
A 256GB of storage might not be sufficient for many people but there is a good news for you. You can install a secondary storage either an SSD or HDD by opening the back of the laptop.
As I said in the beginning, the laptop boasts connectivity of every type. You can easily connect two USB 3.0, an HDMI or a VGA, Ethernet, and a Type-C USB on the left side, and read one memory card, a USB 2.0, headphone, and a USB 2.0 on the right side. The plus point is that it even has a DVD-RW on the same side.
As a hacker, you could need these connectivity options, and that is exactly what Acer Aspire E15 offers.
When it comes to battery life, Acer is claiming to offer 15 hours which isn’t accurate at all. According to Martin, you can expect 8 hours of battery while using it moderately and while doing for hardcore tasks, you can expect anything around 2-3 hours which is very good in my opinion.
I have to say this is the cheap and best computer for hacking in the market you can get today.
8. Razer Blade 14″
The Razer Blade 14 is one of the powerful laptops you can get hands on right now. Also, keep in mind that this is the most expensive laptop on this list which costs around $2500 and that’s the main reason I have ranked this laptop at least because not everyone can buy this expensive machine.
If you have a very high budget for a top laptop for hacking, then you should definitely consider this laptop for sure.
Okay, let’s talk about this beast in detail.
The 14-inch IPS full display of Razer Blade is very attractive which has decent color accuracy and viewing angles. It is surely one of the best-looking laptops on the market right now. If you are a fan of the design of MacBook Air, then you might like it.
Everything is top-notch on this laptop except for its moderate speakers. Despite packing Intel Core i7-7700HQ, and GTX 1060, the laptop is still very portable. It only weighs 4.3 lbs (1.9 kg).
The CPU and the GPU performance is beyond anything you can imagine. The pair stands tall for every kind of multitasking in any industry, and not just hacking. This is where this laptop rocks and gives you a solid performance for its huge price.
Of course, the 16GB DDR4 RAM aids in the task performance of the laptop, and I’d also like to mention the superior 512GB PCIe SSD. After MacBook Pro, in this list, Razor Blade 14 has the fastest SSD.
You may think such a slim laptop cannot house more connectivity options, and I hate to admit it. But still, you can still connect three USB 3.0, an HDMI, a 4K monitor through the Thunderbolt 3 port, and a headphone jack.
The battery life you can expect from this laptop with average usage is around 6 hours which is neither best nor worst. It is decent in my opinion.
If you want to perform any heavy duty ask, you should only get a laptop with powerful specs and that’s what I have done here to help you choose the right option. These are 8 Best laptops for Hacking you can right now in 2019 which has powerful hardware and it can deliver what you want.
